07/25/01, by Scott: Matt and I went with some of our North Hills Sports Car Club amigos to the WildWood Highlands Go-Kart park, where we all enjoyed a couple of hours of Honda-Lawnmower-Engine fun. The course was a 6 turn bucket of thrills, and there was actually some decent racing and jockeying for position...bumping may not be allowed, but rubbin's racing, son. This may be a monthly thing, I'll try to grab some pics at the next event.
About S&M Racing
In the summer of 1999, Scott, a GS-R driver, saw a white Integra Type R pull up next to his GS-R in the paddock at a Pittsburgh autocross. Scott immediately started drooling. The owner of the ITR, Matt, was very patient with all the fawning and car questions, and Scott did what he could to get Matt set up for the AutoX. Scott and Matt became friends, and after a number of races together, they found that their AutoX times were often very close, sometimes within thousandths of a second. Scott's modified GS-R sedan and Matt's near-stock ITR each had their strenghts, and soon they were trading keys for fun-runs to learn the strenghts of the different setups (This was deciedly to Scott's advantage.) While the times were close, the racing was always in good fun, and competetion wasn't the point. In January of 2001, Scott decided that it was time to make a major modification to his GS-R...it was time to sell it and upgrade to a black 2001 Type R. Naturally, Matt agreed this was the only logical step to take.
The Type R may not be the greatest car on the planet, but you'll be hard pressed to find a more competent FWD stock car for anywhere near the money. From the more rigid chassis and perfectly matched suspension components to the screaming 195 bhp hand-built B18C5 engine, everything about the car is designed to help the driver push the envelope with confidence. At 108.33 normally-aspirated horsepower per liter, the engine has a higher specific output than the legendary Ferrari F355 (only the ITR's sister, the Honda S2000, has more.) Countless automotive publications have declared the Type R the best front-wheel drive performer ever built; Scott and Matt tend to agree. This goal of this page is to chronicle the evolution, triumphs, and inevitable setbacks we face as enthusiasts and racers. Over time, it will become a resource for other Type R owners.
We hope you enjoy the site!
