DC 4-2-1 Header

The stock header is a heavy lump of iron. It does its job pretty well, but after helping a friend in Pittsburgh install a Spoon header (which is a work of lightweight art), and feeling how much the stock header weighs (about 36 lbs. all told), I've been passively looking for a deal on something better than stock to come along. Well, in late March of aught-three, Bryan Sprinkel (whom I had met down at VIR a while back) posted a for-sale for a friend's ITR DC 4-2-1 header...and the price was right. The header is used, and is the USDM style 2.25 inch collector (instead of a JDM 2.5 inch collector pipe like Matt's Japanese ITR header), so it would be a zero-hassle install, no new cat, no flanges or adapters or anything. In the future, if and when I do some engine modifications, (like serious ones), I'll spring for an SMSP header and get some serious gains. But for now, this is easy, sheds pounds, and seems to have given the car a bit more punch, particularly in the midrange.

Odd sidenote: When I installed this header, I discoverd that one of the 7 bolts that holds the header to the block was missing, and so was one of the two big-ass spring bolts that holds the header flange to the cat. I do not know where they could have gone, I think gnomes were trying to take my stock exhaust manifold.

Mmm....stainless steel that's been stained...
