Rear Wiper Removal

Coming from the GS-R sedan, and having pored over Matt's Type R thoroughly before getting my own, the dealer understood that I knew more about the car than he ever would, so when I took posession he said "When they send you that survey just tell them that I told you where everything is". Naturally, everything was quite familiar, except for an extra switch inboard of the wiper switch on the right stalk. I figured that Honda had decided to put a intermittent-wiper timing adjustment on the newer cars, so i started fiddling with it (it was raining when i bought my R)...there were these weird noises, but i didn't notice it doing anything...until i checked the rear view and saw a streak of fluid running down the hatch window. Heh, sedan didn't have that! Anyway, i never really used the damn thing, nor did Matt, and when Mike K from Honda-Tech posted that he had two rear-wiper removal kits (all the necessairy OEM parts), Matt jumped on it and a couple weeks later we had the goods. Hardest part of this is getting the rear plastic interior to pop out, and even more difficult, back in. Just takes some work to get everything to seat right.

Mike sent a rubber gromet, the metal plug, a bolt, and a beefy washer, along with some wonderful instructions :)

Part numbers for those of you who want to do what we did. The wiper already has a gromet, so really all you need is a bolt, the plug, and a thicker washer if you don't want to reuse the one on the wiper assembly.

Get two Type Rs in a dark, hot garage, and a sweaty shirtless freak to do the grunt work :P

Pop off the little black cover that hides the wiper arm bolt.

give the inner plastic lining of the hatch a mighty tug.

White Type Rs are much easier to photograph in a dark garage. This is your naked hatch.

Here's the wiper motor...

...and from the side.

Take off the wiper arm.

Undo the bolts that hold in the wiper motor.

Undo the quick connect that plugs into the motor, and tape the wire down somewhere so it doesn't rattle.

This is the gromet that's already in place, no need to replace it unless it's fux0red.

put the plug in, and secure it with the bolt.

My car is filthy, but it's got a much cleaner look!

Easily worth 5 horsepower. Actually, it does free up a pretty cool switch and a motor....oil-slick anyone?

Take this to your parent's house, because they love storing your random car parts.
