Steubenville AutoX, 04/28/02
This is the first race test of a sweet wide-angle lens that a fellow R driver and Honda-Tech.com member sent me, there's some vignetting (that's what the fancy camera people call the edges being cut off the frame) but the content is much improved, with the wheel fully visible and a panoramic full-windscreen view. I highly recommend wide-angle to anyone looking for better in-car video. Obviously, this was a very tight course, almost all 1st gear, and because I was lazy this weekend I'm running my street tires on the slippery Steubenville surface. A fast & furious vid.
Steubenville AutoX, 04/28/02 (Tim S. Driving)
I figured I could thank Tim for all the help he's given me recently working on cars by letting him flog around the R for a day at an AutoX. Especially one where he wouldn't be chewing up my expensive rubber ;) This was Tim's second autocross ever, his first being back in his native Jersey in his GS-R. Check out his site here. Oddly, his first run was the fastest, he kept tagging cones on his later runs, though he did improve his raw time. For a novice, I was very impressed with how Tim handled the R, but I'm sure he can't wait to have his own car here next season. This is the clip of his first/fastest run.
Virginia International Raceway, 2/24/02
This is a lap of the GORGEOUS VIR track in southern VA, and was my first chance to try out my IOPort Camera Mount on my new rollbar, and my Falken Azenis. Unfortunately, I didn't have the wideangle lens yet. Riding shotgun is Warren Wang, who runs his supah-sweet rippled Type R in the East Coast Honda Challenge series. Warren is a wonderful instructor and an excellent driver, I was lucky enough to ride with him a couple of times (during one of which a Turbo Miata Blew Up. (Right click and save to your hard drive for best performance, That's my brilliant commentary while Warren saved our asses.) The video above starts at the begining of the front straight, and goes a full lap (to the end of the front straight again). This was later in the second day, where I have a decent concept of the line and was feeling much more comfortable with this challenging course's insane elevation changes. You'll notice that I'm not pushing the car too hard on the straights, it could go faster but I was more concerned with getting the corners down pat before taking things too deep, 120 was plenty in most cases. Naturally I picked a lap where there's a minimum of Warren yelling at me :) (Thanks again for your great instruction Warren!)
Nelson Ledges Road Course, 11/03/01
This is a very bouncy in-car vid (using the ghetto rig shown in the mods section) of a lap at Nelson Ledges in late 2001. As usual, the big V8s are in the way ;) (This has nothing to do with the fact that I'm on R compound tires, albiet ancient and fried ones.) Towards the end of the clip, you'll see an angry IT VW pass on my left as the mustang pits in, I tried to chase him for a while (with mixed sucess, I'll post that vid later).
