S&M Racing

August 5th, 2001 (NeOhio, Akron)

John and I woke up in our lovely EconoLodge room, and were very thankful that we didn't have a 90 minute drive ahead of us. Of course, we still showed up at the last possible minute, but that's just because we apparently are doomed to run around in the heat. Even more people showed up for the official sunday event, meaning that I had some evil heavy-hitters to deal with in CSP, and John's class was so huge that it was run as it's own group. At the end of the day, I finished third officially, but at the awards ceremony I was told I came in second, and was given my pick of first place trophies...not sure why, but i'll take a nice shot glass over a towel anyday. I was hitting far too many cones, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. While Andy wasn't there, an evil CRX was, and of course, I want to go back and see if i can nail that race-prepped and caged yellow RX-7 that has bested me twice now. John was in a great battle for first place, and it seemed that he had it until his best run was protested as his having hit a cone. He's not sure if he did or not, but when he takes Street Touring he wanted there to be no doubt about it, so he was in second by a couple hundredths. (I would have bitched and moaned.) I should mention that he beat my time, and he was on street tires...nice driving John!

This fully prepared 914 was a little out of its element on the autocross track, but i've never seen a race car put together so beautifully.

Okay, take a Lotus, leave the front on, chop off the rear, and pop in a V6. Makes sense. Apparently, this car was 2nd fastest overall at Nationals last year...i'll believe that.

A fellow ITR, he goes by XMetal on Honda-Tech.com. He was rockin G-Stock (though ITRCA.com founder Brett wasn't in attendance, and he seemed somehow happy about that :) )
