May 26th, 2002 (NOVR)

A gorgeous day (finally!) in Ohio, comfortable, sunny, and fun. This was a relatively packed event for Steubeville, with 40-some entrants...although these events remain laid back and fun. Despite the small lot, the brothers McMullen managed to find a way to make me shift into 2nd gear, which is very strange for Steubenville and tended to keep me out of the powerband...my times were respectable, but once the horsepower guys started getting the turns down, they found the top times were all theirs. Mark took FTD with a great run in his screaming F355, which has a pretty tall 1st gear (about 60 MPH) and used every inch of it on the burst-of-speed straights. Andy was hitting cones all day and giving me CSP for the first part of the day, but managed a clean run and took the win in our class (though i never did find out my last time...pretty sure there's no surprises coming though.) I liked the course, but missed the unfair advantage of a really tight course where the R seems to shine in first-gear-only, with the LSD cranking.

After the event, a pack of us went to Robinson Town Center for dinner, where a car show was taking place...there were some pretty neat show cars hanging out, including a few super-angry looking classic cars that were obviously show AND go drag racers. On the way home, I tussled with a Dodge Viper, and I completely owned him until he passed me when he was able to get in the lane next to me. If i hadn't had the jack and tires in my car, I'm sure the outcome would have been very.....much the same :) He seemed to approve of the R tho, as he gave me a thumbup and horn beep....gotta love nice car people!
