May 19th, 2002 (NHSCC)

This was another hectic day at North Hills, although the turnout seems to have been curbed a bit. Tim brought his GS-R back from New Jersey for this event, and his friend Janice brought her Jetta VR6 for her first try at autocrossing. (She pilots one of the CMU buggies for Fringe; buggies are carbon-fiber 3-wheeled gravity torpedos that inconceivably have humans in them when they shoot downhill in annual races).

Tim has all the makings of an excellent autocrosser, and was enjoying his GS-R at the limit with his newly-added Type R rear anti-swaybar in Street Touring, Janice was finiding the limits of her Jetta with me in the passenger seat yelling "GAS GAS GAS!!" until she hit the rev limiter (she's an early shifter, hopefully we converted her a bit), and I failed to hold off Andy's CRX, which is now sporting brand-spanking-new cheater Hoosier gumballs and beat me with both Andy and Mark Nernberg behind the wheel...still, the event was lots of fun (Mike Ancas brings the Cones of Death to 2002), Mike set up the course to keep the high-horsepower guys at bay while he walked away with FTD. I played with a new pressure setup (much lower pressure in the rear, which John W. swears by and I was enjoying quite a bit, except when I almost spun about 5 times in the span of 6 seconds (moves hands frantically back and forth as if sawing at an imaginary wheel in an attempt (mostly successful) to keep front end in front)) (yes, that's like a sub-sub-sub parenthetical comment, and this is a single such comment following them directly.) CSP was one of the fastest classes of the day, while my time was only worth a 3rd place in CSP, it was 7th fastest of the day (I think, somewhere in there), one of my best finishes in a large group like North Hills. I was very pleased ...video to come eventually.
